McDowell, whose breakout roles in "If..." and "A Clockwork Orange" came when he was not much older than Taylor-Compton is now, commented at an earlier press day that the ingénue needs to keep her head screwed on straight in order to make it for the long-term in the heady world of Hollywood movies.

"She's got tremendous talent," he said. "But it gets to the point where it's not about talent, it's about character. It will be really be up to her and her character to see whether she can come through this and move on up. That is the name of the game, and that is what is difficult."

The actor also wants to make it clear that this new version of "Halloween" is not a slasher movie, despite the grisly murders that take place as the action moves briskly along. "I don't like slasher movies, but this isn't one," he insisted. "I think this is more a classic horror film. I think it's a sort of Greek Tragedy, isn't it really? It's a classic horror movie, the boy next door, that's the scary part. It's the boy next door, this angelic child. But it's really an indictment about mental health, as much as anything else, if you want to get ridiculous about it.

There also are three crystal buttons down the back, creating a keyhole effect.

For the daytime, the look is similar but in black and white — and without the crystals. It has a scoop-back design that facilitates movement, according to Sandieson.

Performance is always the priority, Sandieson said, but she and Sharapova strive for designs that marry function with fashion.

"She has a fantastic game and I have a lot of respect for that but she has a great eye for detail," Sandieson said. "She's got a style that's very natural to her, and she also knows what she likes and doesn't like."

Sharapova, 20, has become a player in the fashion world and has sponsorship deals with Parlux Fragrances, handbag company Samantha Thavasa and watchmaker Tag Heuer in addition to Nike. She follows Venus and Serena Williams and Anna Kournikova as tennis players who are also seen as style icons.

"She wears clothes that a lot of other women would like to own and look good in," said Susan Kaufman, editor of People StyleWatch.

Kaufman also notes that today's tennis stars are photographed when they're off the court, too, giving more of a glimpse of their personal style.

Sharapova noted that the U.S. Open, which runs Aug. 27-Sept. 8, coincides with New York Fashion Week and she tries to make it to at least one show. For the past two years, it's been Marc Jacobs but she also hopes to make it to Michael Kors, Peter Som and Vera Wang this year.

Once her tennis career is over, she said, fashion is something she'd like to further explore.

As for the rest of the affordable line, T-shirts—most of which are emblazoned with the star's visage or name or some combination thereof—average $34, while denim is upwards of $88, while coats and dresses retail for $68 and above. The most expensive items in the line are the Hilton-approved sequin dress and a gold metallic coat, both priced at $128.

"I just wanted to make clothes that were comfortable and fun," she said, adding that additional pieces from Paris Hilton are due to be released next month.

The launch itself was about more than simple self-promotion, however. Proceeds from the special shopping event went toward Hilton's charity of choice, Los Angeles Children's Hospital, where she volunteered in the wake of her release. Some of the children from the hospital were even present.

"I went and visited them two months ago, and it made me really want to help," she told E! News. "So, now I'm going to a lot of charity events and bring them out to do fun things. It's nice to make someone smile and make a difference in someone's life."

It's all in a day's work for the heiress, who wants people to know she plans on making good on her statements that she would adopt a more socially responsible role.

"I've definitely matured," she said. "I'm 26 years old now, and I feel like I've been so blessed by God that I want to give back and do something in return. I feel like if everyone does their part, we can really make a difference."

The socialite heiress debuted her eponymous clothing line at the trendy Kitson boutique on L.A.'s Robertson Boulevard Thursday, in an event that was one part charity, one (major) part shopping.

"It's always been a dream of mine to have a clothing line," Hilton told E! News at the launch. "So, I've been working on it for the past year. I love being in fashion, designing, being creative."

Hilton added that one of her main goals in creating the price-conscious line was to take her own look and "make it so my friends could wear it."

She, of course, wore one of her own designs, a sparkly gold minidress that retails for $128, though she may be hard pressed to top the exposure garnered by another article of clothing from the line: Hilton desiged the denim she donned on her much photographed midnight release from the Century Regional Detention Facility in June.

CBS will be bringing sexy back Dec. 4 at 10 p.m., late enough, execs are hoping, to placate those concerned viewers out there who worry that all that low-cut lace is a little much for those whose bedtimes fall in the 8-10 p.m. range.

Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, Karolina Kurkova and Selita Ebanks will be among the professional lovelies taking part in the nearly annual event, which was temporarily replaced by the Angels Across America tour in 2004. The lingerie showcase was booted from the airwaves in 2004 in the wake of Janet Jackson's nipple slip and then again the following year, to avoid antagonizing the FCC.

Ebanks and Kurkova joined Victoria's Secret president and CEO Sharen Tuney Monday at the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street to ring the bell that opens the day's trading and announce the plans for this year's program.

Notably missing from the catwalk this year will be Giselle Bündchen, who parted ways with Victoria's Secret in May after being a frequent catalogue fixture for several years. While neither party gave a particular reason, the breakup reportedly occurred after the upscale undies purveyor refused to raise the leggy Brazilian's $5 million annual salary.

Justin Timberlake headlined last year's special, which returned to CBS after its aforementioned two-year absence, but there's no word yet on what sort of musical accompaniment is in the works for 2007.
